Positive Parenting Tips

SPECIAL DELIVERY…NO INSTRUCTIONS ATTACHED. Exactly what is effective parenting? How can we help our child succeed in life if there is only one of us doing the full job?  It is a daunting task as a positive role model consistently clarifies using clear expectations.

Here are 6 tips for parenting that we can all use!

  1. Stay Calm (easier said than done) but a wise word.
  2. Be consistent.
  3. Keep a positive attitude.
  4. Praise a child constantly. (To this day, my son has the most beautiful printing, penmanship and precise drafting skill in architecture because of one first grade teacher’s accolades.
  5. Have a playful sense of humor. Kids love to tumble and giggle, even with grandparents.

NEVER never tell a child he is dumb, “like his father” or no good. You will set up a lifetime of shame, humiliation and failure. You only get one chance. Parenting is never a redo – well, maybe that’s why being a grandparent is so much fun!
